Last checked against official sources: 17 Oct 2026

Each cost to ask about, from the undertaker and funeral parlour to cremation and keeping the ashes, with government fees and basic funeral services for people in need.

Ask the undertaker

  • Ask for a written, itemised quote: coffin, transporting the body, the funeral parlour hall, ceremony and religious officiants, floral tributes, hearse, cremation or burial arrangements.
  • Check the shop holds an FEHD undertaker licence (our list); List B shops are prohibited from keeping ashes on the premises.

Private niches

Private niche prices vary widely. In 2022 the Consumer Council surveyed several licensed private columbaria and found single niches of different grades in the same columbarium varied up to almost 12 times, with the most expensive double niche close to $5.2 million; handling, solicitor's and management fees come on top. Our fee comparison page only shows prices that columbaria publish on their own websites, with the date we read them.

If money is tight

Under its service agreement with the Government, Global Funeral Parlour provides basic funeral services to people in need for no more than the CSSA burial grant; FEHD notes that Kowloon, International and Diamond Hill funeral parlours provide similar services. People in need can also seek help from charitable trust funds or the Emergency Relief Fund managed by the Social Welfare Department.
